It does not give very transparent breakdowns on leveling up and how to build a character. Stays very close to 5e ruleset but you really need to be familiar with the rule set already. Does a pretty fair job of handling combat as this is all it really is as a hack and slash dungeon crawler. Only a few dozen hours into it so it seems I've only scratched the surface.

Would recommend it to anyone who loves roleplaying, D&D or tactical turn based adventures. I'm running it solo at the moment but I'm looking forward to teaming up with some online friends to play it multiplayer at higher difficulties. Would love to see WotC, and/or some renowned D&D content creators come on board and create some classic modules for us to experience. With more money and our support of the Devs, future DLC releases could up the quality. Not sure if this has improved with the DLC which I also purchased because I was loving the first game. Its very cute at times and does the required job of exposition and moving the story along. Yes, the graphics and glitchy cut scenes are not as good as some AAA titles, but really I don't care. Just loving it! I think I am enjoying this better than DOS2 due to the 5E rule set and it just feels so familiar, and yet different enough to keep me wanting to play. Just hit 60hrs in the first campaign game story and characters are Level 7. What is a Doomblade modifier? Well, either craft it or Google, because this game will never tell you unless you are looking at the exact item. Get ready to pull up your Player Handbook(aka Google) because a Scroll of Fireball, doesn't tell you what Fireball actually does, it just says 'uses Scroll of Fireball.' So, you attempt to use the scroll from your inventory, then realize that you don't want to explode the entire room with your friends inside and then click 'abort' because you want to cancel that attempted action, OH WAIT! I'VE USED MY FREE/INVENTORY ACTION.

Scrolls and crafting manuals don't tell you what the items they contain do. Why is it unlimited range for one thing, but massively reduced range for something that essentially does the same thing? You have unlimited range of your other party members' items for crafting purposes, but have to be right next to them to give them any item (like a weapon or potion). This one is really annoying and makes you feel like you are playing with a DM that has to follow the rules by the book, NO EXCEPTIONS! If you go into your inventory during battle, and try to use something (like a scroll) and then decide that you want to use a different item (maybe didn't have range and it was a touch spell), guess what? YOU CAN'T! You've 'used your free/inventory action for the round!' That's right, the ATTEMPT to use something, counts as the action itself. Poof, your items are gone! Right when you start enjoying this game something like this may happen, the game at times is not stable.

Host reloads, and what happens to my crafted bow? Well, it has magically become 6 goodberries (magical consumable items that you get for free if someone has the skill) and now my hard work at making a bow upgrade has vanished. Well, next battle comes, and guess what? I've timed out. Disappearing weapons: I don't know why this happened but I spent a long time within the game crafting a bow, to upgrade my rogue party member, and I equipped it onto him with the intent of trying it out next battle. In that case the host has to load the next previous save (hopefully it wasn't too far back). If the game gives the guest a reaction, and they've timed out, then they will not be able to see the reaction, and the host cannot save the game during a reaction. If this happens, you can have the host save and then reload the game, usually. Nothing seems to happen to the host though, I've had to tell my friend (he's host) every time it happens. Randomly within a scope of 1-6 hours, if you are playing the game with friends, the game will eventually time-out during battles, and the only way to tell is if one of the non-hosts aren't taking their turn. Just be prepared to restart/reload many times because of very annoying bugs and features, shown below. Long story short, it is worth it for the 16.99 I paid, because I plan on beating the story once, and there is a plethora of user generated content. At best, it's fun DnD, but at worst, it's like a spiteful DM who really wants to screw over his players. This game has the promise of being very fun, especially with friends, however, it is very buggy (especially online) and there are some features that are not user friendly. ONLY BUY THIS GAME ON SALE, the bigger, the better.
